Mrs. Li’s Dragon Well Tea is a self-initiated editorial illustration project inspired by David Duckler’s article Mrs. Li’s Dragon Well Tea, published in Eighty Degrees Magazine.
The article is about Mrs. Li's Dragon Well tea, which is grown on the slopes of the Lion Peak region in Dragon Well Village, China.
This illustration is part of a series of editorial illustrations I created about tea culture.
I created the illustrations and the animated GIFs using handmade digital techniques.

Below are some initial sketches and colour tests for the project.

The illustration below shows Mrs. Li presenting the leaves from three different harvests on three chipped enamel trays while sharing more about Dragon Well tea with her visitors, as described in the article.

I also illustrated Emperor Qianlong since the article mentions his stone inscriptions praising Dragon Well tea and the shrines dedicated to him on the mountain.

This project is part of a series of illustrations I created about tea culture. Please check out the other illustrations I created on this topic in The Many Faces of Tea project.
